“I have to say
that even though
I knew what the Annual Report would look like,
I was genuinely thrilled to see it printed. A great job...”

– Tim Maguire, Humanist Society of Scotland

Design Consultant

I personally don't subscribe to a belief of design just for design's sake. For me there has to be a fundamental reason that ignites the process for someone's desire to change. In order to create I need to understand the client and identify what it is that they want to achieve through design.

Forming a close working relationship with a client is essential. It is vital to establish a dialogue with them about the whole design process. I need to ensure that my customers are happy with the creative directions I have chosen for their project and to understand the reasons for my choices.

Inspiration arrives from many sources. A magazine article. A conversation. Listening to the radio. My approach to design is always methodical. I strive to generate visual ideas which immediately communicate with an audience. Often I employ a clear typographic hierarchy to help users identify the structure of a document and to gather information from it quickly and easily.

In recent years I have specialised in working with new business start-ups. But I fully acknowledge that creating a visual identity or a website is only a small part of what it takes to establish a business, product or service as a brand.

I think I am very lucky to work with clients who trust my design judgment so implicitly.
